This story of Billy Albertson took me on a journey to the past. It brought back stories that were told to me by my Grandmother who died in 2004 at age 96.
I loved reading Hardscrabble Christmas.
Everything Renea writes is worth reading. She is a fabulous writer and I so look forward to her next book.
Renea writes very interesting human interest stories that I just love. I sometimes crave that way of living especially after reading one of her books, they just warm my heart!
Through the eyes of the author, an octogenarian farmer recalls Christmases past. Details of life on the farm and simple pleasures such as syrup sweet bread bring the past to life. A good Christmas story to share with the entire family.
Purchased this to help Gatlinburg folks after the fire!
Heard most of these stories of Billy's before, but never get tired of hearing again. A pleasant surprise at the end with my Mama Albertson's sorghum syrup cake. I can taste it now, have looked for sometime for recipe, but no one seemed to have it. Might have known Billy would have it. Love you Billy, Shirley
With a house full of what Billy would call "young'uns" romping around the tree, this was the read I needed today. I met Billy about three years ago after reading Renea' s book "In the Garden with Billy". He was everything I dreamed he'd be and more. I admire his unmatched work ethic, but even more his hopelessly positive and loving view of life. This slice of Billy' s childhood is not only endearing, thanks to Ms. Renea' s beautiful writing, but a challenge to today's parents. I don't know a soul who would meet Billy and not hope their son could grow up to be such a man. It challenges what we think our kids need to grow up to be strong men and women who contribute to society. Thank you Renea Winchester, for blessing our holiday season and keeping the stories of Georgia's days gone by alive.
